Microsoft Word Add-in
Cite as you write.Right inside Word.
CiteGeist for Word puts your reference library one click away. Search your sources, insert citations, and build a polished bibliography without ever leaving your document.
Strict privacy: the add-in only talks to your own CiteGeist library
What the add-in is
The CiteGeist add-in is a task pane that opens alongside your Word document and connects to your CiteGeist account. Once you sign in, your library is right there: search it, pick the sources you want, and CiteGeist inserts properly formatted citations where your cursor is.
Because citations are linked to the references in your library, CiteGeist can keep them consistent, reformat them all when you change styles, and generate your bibliography from exactly what you’ve cited, so your reference list never drifts out of sync with your text.

What it does
Everything you need to reference as you write, from the first citation to the final bibliography.
Search your whole library
Find references by author, title, phrase, or year, and narrow results with your CiteGeist tags using AND / OR filters.
Insert one source or many
Drop a citation at your cursor and group as many references into it as you need, all in a couple of clicks.
Edit citations in place
Open any CiteGeist citation to add or remove individual references, step to the previous or next citation, or delete it entirely.
One-click bibliography
Build or regenerate a formatted reference list from every CiteGeist citation in your document.
Switch styles anytime
Change the reference style once and every citation and the bibliography reformat across the whole document.
Stay accurate
Refresh keeps citation text current, and sources that go missing from your library are clearly flagged so nothing slips through.
Privacy & your data
A very strict privacy policy, by design.
The CiteGeist add-in doesn’t use your data. Its only job is to communicate with your own cloud-based CiteGeist library, so you can find your references and cite them in your document. Nothing more.
Talks only to your library
The add-in connects to one place: your own CiteGeist library in the cloud. It uses that connection to search your references and keep your citations and bibliography in sync.
We don’t use your data
Your documents, references, and activity in Word are yours. The add-in doesn’t use your data for any other purpose.
You’re in control
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time by emailing support@citegeist.io.
Your CiteGeist account
Your CiteGeist account itself is covered by the CiteGeist Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
~/Library/Logs/CiteGeist/ on your computer, which you can choose to send to Support if something goes wrong. Deleting the helper app leaves only those log files.Help & feedback
